The Claiborne County Chapter of the Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Alumni Association has established the Janet S. Barnard Memorial Scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating senior from Claiborne High. Barnard, a 1973 graduate of LMU, was a lifelong educator who served Claiborne County schools as a teacher, principal and curriculum supervisor for 38 years. Barnard is survived by her husband, Lynn, who is also an educator in Claiborne County, and their daughter, Danielle, who is a doctor practicing general surgery and trauma surgery in Memphis.
